More Than 7000 Stress Days Taken By Plymouth Teachers in Half a Decade

Over 7000 school days were lost over the past five years because Plymouth teachers took time off from school due to stress.
Statistics show that 242 teachers suffering from stress have taken 7141 days off from school over 2007 to 2012 as shown by the Herald Newspaper’s investigation.
From 2007 to 2012 the number of teachers on sick leave had fallen but the amount of school days which have been lost because of stress has remained the same.
Between 2007 and 2008 a high number of teachers were off sick and of the 1537 who were off sick 50 of those were from stress.
Numbers have stayed fairly similar over the past five years.
In 2011-12 890 teachers were ill and off from work and 51 of those absences were because of stress.
