Rise in Abandoned NHS Non-Emergency 111 Calls

Recent figures show that the number of abandoned telephone calls to the NHS non-emergency 111 line have increased from 6976 in February 2013 to 29100 in March 2013 due to the fact that callers have had to wait longer than 30 seconds for a response.

The average duration of incoming calls the total number of calls to the 111 line has risen by half a million from February to March.

However some doctors have recently raised concerns that the non-emergency line is ‘problematic’ and teething problems are constantly being exposed.

There have been well publicised complaints that calls are not being answered patients are being given poor advice and are quite often advised to visit hospitals even if they don’t need to.
