What Are Your Rights When Pregnant
In this video we look at your employment rights when you are pregnant.
Hello and welcome to the Legal Minute, this time we’re talking about your rights when you’re pregnant.
As soon as your employer is aware of your pregnancy you have protection in legislation against any bullying, comments or detriment that are linked to your pregnancy.
Your employer should carry out a risk assessment of your workplace, and this should be done throughout your pregnancy as the risks may differ; if an assessment identifies a significant risk then the employer should adjust the working conditions or offer you a suitable alternative role at the same rate of pay. If they cannot do this they should suspend you on full pay in order to protect your health and safety and that of the child.
Whilst you are pregnant you are entitled to paid time off to attend anti-natal classes and you should not be asked to make this time up by your employer, it’s also unlawful for your employer to discipline you for any sickness absence that is related to your pregnancy, so any normal sickness absence should be recorded separately to anything related to your pregnancy.
