Hackney Council Pay worker Compensation after failing to Protect him from a Dangerous Dog

Hackney Council are paying a former employee compensation after he was bitten by a pitbull when he was on duty.

42 year old Chris Dew from Brentwood was working for the Council in May 2011 as an anti-social behaviour officer. He and another officer were visiting a property in Stamford Hill following a series of complaints of dangerous dogs in the area.

When he entered the house a pitbull attacked his face and throat he was left with a puncture wound on his neck.

Following the incident Mr Dew was left with psychological issues of depression and was irritable. The incident affected both his personal and professional life due to the anxiety caused by the attack he rearranged the date and gave up his job feeling that he could no longer visit houses where dogs lived.

The RSPCA later destroyed the two animals at the property.
