Beauty Queen Crowned Miss Popularity After Suffering From Stress At Work
Nichole Howard 21 from Newark in Gloucestershire was severely bullied by her work colleagues at Gloucester County Council who sent her harassing text messages throughout the day and night. She said that she was scared to leave the house in fear of seeing them.
She says: “I felt small weak and constantly questioned what I had done to deserve this kind of treatment. One particularly bad day I just cried in front of the toilet mirror. I couldn’t even bear to get the bus home for fear of looking stupid.”
On one occasion she told her mother that she would walk into the road in front of a car because she felt as though the situation was so unbearable.
Nichole sought medical advice after suffering with stomach pains a lack of energy dizziness cold and hot sweats. Her GP diagnosed her with work related anxiety and depression.
With the support of friends and family she battled her illness and has just been crowned Miss Popularity in the local Miss Bristol and Avon Beauty Pageant something she never imagined would be possible during the worst of her illness.
Now Nichole wants to make other more aware of work place bullying and harassment issues and hopes to improve people understanding of mental illnesses.
She says: “I want to be a role model and talk to people about mental illnesses. They simply don’t get the attention they desperately need.”
“If I can inspire just one person to turn their life around then everything I’m doing will be worth it. I still have bad days and struggle but then I think what I have achieved.”
“In a strange way I am grateful for what happened to me as now I can use it to help others.”
