It’s Official! Work Related Stress in Britain is Higher Than Almost Anywhere Else
The Sun newspaper reported yesterday in an article titled ‘Half Quit jobs due to stress’ that 48 per cent of Britain’s have left a job because it was ‘too stressful’ and a further 28 per cent have considered leaving a job.
The survey was conducted by the jobs search website Monster and the figures make concerning reading when globally the same rate is only 38 per cent on average. Indeed in India only 19 per cent of employees have left a job because it was too stressful.
Globally only two other countries were ahead of Britain and they were Switzerland and Ireland.
All of the published stats indicate that stress at work is on the rise as is mental illness generally. The current estimated cost to the economy of work related stress is in excess £8 billion according to recent stats.
What employers do not appreciate however is that research suggests that for every £1 an employer invests in staff well being this will equate to £3 in productivity and efficiency according to stats available on The Stress Management Society Website (www.stress.org.uk).
