Mr Cannon sought industrial tribunal advice about making a claim from Michael Lewin Solicitors after being unfairly treated on the grounds of his age.
Mr Cannon had over 30 years? experience as a qualified electrician. When he was made redundant form the council 6 years ago he decided to diversify and apply for a job as an electromechanical engineer. He employed on the grounds of his vast experience and skill and was promised on the job training and the possibility of career promotions.
Mr Cannon applied for the job as he was qualified to do the electrical side of things; he just needed training with electro mechanicals. The board of directors appointed Mr Cannon as they were very impressed. He had worked in his job for 2 and a half years and was still being treated like a dogsbody and a trainee.
?I approached my manager about the fact that I was receiving no training or was not being given the responsibilities I was promised. His answer was ?you can?t teach an old dog new tricks stick to what you know granddad.? I tried to discuss the problem with HR but the manager was never reprimanded. I decided to seek industrial tribunal advice about making a claim from Michael Lewin Solicitors.?
Mr Cannon was unhappy with the way his employers had treated him over his age but was overjoyed with the result of the industrial tribunal he attended.
