Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

This April is ‘Bowel Cancer Awareness Month’ and it is more important than ever to spread the word after doctors have reported a rising number of cases of the disease.

The cancer is now the third most common form of cancer within the UK and if detected early it can be treated successfully in over 90% of cases.

According to Bowel Cancer UK it is the second biggest cancer killer with the disease affecting over 40000 people in this country every year; 95% of those are over 50.

15700 people die of the disease every year but if caught the survival rate is high with 54% of men and 56% surviving bowel cancer for five or more years.

The month has been created to educate people about the disease and get to know the signs and symptoms so that if they have any concerns they can visit their GP.
