Mr Haseem sought religious discrimination advice from Michael Lewin Solicitors which resulted in a successful claim from his employers.
Mr Haseem was a practising Muslim. He worked in a television and computer retail and repair shop and had done for 2 and a half years. He wore the staff uniform that had been provided and was always immaculately presented for work. Mr Haseem had a beard that he kept to the length he believed was in accordance with his religious beliefs.
The company had no policies in place regarding staff appearance. The only policy they had relating to appearance was the uniform policy. This stated that all staff should wear a T-shirt or shirt with the company logo on along with their name badge; this was to make them easily identifiable to customers.
?When the area manager came in to do the stock check at the store he started making jokes about the length of my beard. It started off as mild jokes but over the few days he was there it got worse. He ended up saying to me ?would you just shave that thing off your face I?m sick of the sight of it?. Every time he came back to do a stock check he always made a bee line for me to harass me some more. I sought religious discrimination advice from Michael Lewin Solicitors and looked into making a claim.?
Mr Haseem persued his claim for compensation on the grounds of religious discrimination and was successful thanks to the expert help of Michael Lewin Solicitors.
