Stress at work dismissal results in Mrs Harwood winning compensation with the help of employment law specialists Michael Lewin.
Mrs Harwood had worked for her employer for over 10 years continuously. She worked as a hotel receptionist. The staff had all been given very little notice that the hotel was to shut so that it could be re-vamped. They had all been re-assured that with regard to their job roles that nothing was to change.
The hotel was shut for 3 months to allow for renovations. It was due to open with press photographers and the local radio having invites to the on-site bar and restaurant. Mrs Anderson was very excited as it was a Friday evening and she always worked on a Friday.
She was asked to swap shifts with a new worker; she refused. Both the receptionists worked that evening with the new girl being ?front of house.? The new girl was much younger and she overheard the MD saying it was a shame the old staff could not be re-vamped like the building.
Her shifts constantly changed at short notice and she was always being warned over things that the younger receptionists were allowed such as having a cup of tea in the reception area late at night. Eventually she felt so stressed after two verbal warnings she had no alternative but to resign.
